Alubond edge to win over Al Faraa in ACL
Alubond posted their first win of the Arabian Cricket League with a 12-run victory over opponents Al Faraa in their maiden match of the tournament held at the ICC Academy on the 1st of March, 2015.
Put in to bat first after Al Faraa had won the toss, Alubond did their utmost to ensure it was a decision the former would regret. Prashanth made a class half-century before falling to Chetan and was ably aided by Waqas (27) and Zishan (36) as the team made a total of 166 runs in their 20 allotted overs.
For Al Faraa, Ajmal and Chetan both picked up two wickets each.
While Alubond had constructed their innings around Prashanth’s effervescent knock that included one six and five fours, Al Faraa’s men had plenty of promising starts, but none failed to materialise into something more.
Chetan top scored for his team with a well-hit 26 that included a stunning six fours, with Wajid also posting the same score. Nabil and Babar (both 18), Ajmal (15) and Mujahid (14) all attempted to steady the ship, but Al Faraa were unable to match the target set by their opponents.
Umair was the pick of the bowlers for Alubond, with three wickets to his name. For his splendid contribution with the bat, Prashant was named Man of the Match.
The Arabian Cricket League is the UAE’s first outdoor Twenty20 tournament, held at the world-class Ovals at the ICC Academy.
In the past, these pitches have been used by several cricket teams, many of whom, including the likes of co-hosts Australia and New Zealand, Afghanistan, Ireland, Scotland, Pakistan and hosts UAE are competing at this year’s World Cup.
