Challengers Cup: Sandpipers leap towards victory
The Sandpipers posted an excellent 39-run victory over Four Mobile in the Challengers Cup at the ICC Academy here to make it three wins from three in their Group.
Matches in the indoor Challengers Cup are twelve-over affairs. Batsmen play in pairs for three overs, and five runs are deducted from the final score every time a wicket falls.
Batting first, the Sandpipers posted an excellent 80 runs from their 12 overs, with Satej (23), Shiraz (16) and Rohit (17) contributing a large portion of those runs.
In response, Four Mobile’s task got harder after their first three overs, which produced only 10 runs. Although they scored 21 runs from their next three overs, it was important for them to have started explosively.
To their credit, they kept plugging away at the score, but lost 15 runs in the next three overs to come away with a score that had been the same after the first six overs.
In the end, the Sandpipers coasted to a richly deserved victory that puts them on top of Group C of the Bronze Group.
Elsewhere, BPN beat AW Rostamani by 26 runs, Pacafic Ventures enjoyed a mammoth 107-run win over A-Rehab Club, Arenco IT enjoyed a 28-run win over the Khaleej Times, and Choithram’s 34 was never going to be enough to overcome Ultimate Fighter’s 37.
