Challengers Cup: SFS enjoy win over A-Rehab Club

Home | Challengers Cup: SFS enjoy win over A-Rehab Club

SFS recorded a 72-run win over A-Rehab Club in the combined Gold and Silver Group of the Challengers Cup to climb to fifth in the table and book their places in the semi-finals as leaders of the Silver teams in the tournament.

The tournament features players batting in pairs for three overs, and each innings consists of 12 overs. A penalty of five runs is deducted from a team’s total every time a wicket falls.

Batting first, SFS made 56 runs from their 12 overs at a comfortable rate of slightly under five runs an over. Jay and Sameer made good foundations for the team as they contributed 25 runs in the first three overs of the match, but the momentum dropped slightly following that opening exchange.

Rinu and Shiraz could only contribute nine runs from their three overs, and 12 came from Sachin and Abdul Rahem’s time at the crease. Ojes and Rahul added a further 12, and given the comparatively low score on the board, SFS would’ve been rightly worried.

However, their bowlers began to inflict damage on A-Rehab Club right from the get-go. Only six runs came from the first three overs for the side batting second and it was quite clear that they would need to work harder to get runs.

It was a message the bowlers seemed to understand as well: they were excellent during the next three overs as A-Rehab lost six runs and their woes were further compounded when a further seven runs were deducted from their scoreline in the next seven overs to put their total in the negative.

A-Rehab did have thoughts of one last charge in order to accumulate as many runs as they could, but the SFS bowlers proved to be too good on the evening, as the former lost eight more runs from the last two overs.

Convincing winners in this match, SFS will now face Team Valtorque in the first Silver semi-final at the Home of Elite Cricket, while Car Fare take on Oxford Marine in the second.

The Gold semis see Knight Riders playing BPN, while Pacific Ventures have been pitted against Al-Futtaim Logistics.

In the Bronze semi-finals, DBMSC will face off against MUCC in the first match, as the Sanpipers meet Arenco IT in the second.
