Challengers Cup: Team Valtorque ease past Al-Rehab

Home | Challengers Cup: Team Valtorque ease past Al-Rehab

Team Valtorque beat Al-Rehab by 33 runs in the Challengers Cup as they made 79 runs for the lost of just two wickets.

That continuity helped them post a handsome total in the combined Gold and Silver section of the tournament.

Each innings lasts for 12 overs and players bat in pairs for three overs each in the eight-a-side contests, with five runs deducted every time a wicket falls.

Although Al-Rehab started their innings well, reaching 36 by the half-way mark and seem destined to coast to a win, the pressure of achieving the task at hand got to some of the players and they threw away four wickets (and 20 runs) in quick succession, leaving them with a very tall mountain to climb.

Faizan was especially handy, as he made 15 runs for his team, and took two wickets and conceded the same number of runs in his two overs.

Varun (14), Ali (13) and Danish (12) all contributed well to the Valtorque score line during their time at the crease.

In response, only Aamir (10) and Abdullah with 14 reached double figures for Al Rehab Club.

The result is a very positive step for the victors, given that they are in the same group as heavyweights Oxford Marine and the Pacific Ventures.

The Challengers Cup takes place in the indoor pitches at the ICC Academy’s world-class facilities at Dubai Sports City.

These facilities have been previously used by several international teams that featured at the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, including winners Australia, co-hosts New Zealand, and other teams such as Pakistan, Scotland, Ireland, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and home team the UAE.
