The Dulsco squad, victorious in its first match in the Silver section of the Challengers Cup indoor tournament at the ICC Academy at Dubai Sports City

Dulsco won its opening match in the Silver section of the Challengers Cup, overcoming Transmed in convincing fashion at the state-of-the-art facilities of the ICC Academy at Dubai Sports City.

Dulsco restricted Transmed to 44, taking five wickets during the course of the innings, then powered its way to 76 in response, with Zeeshan finishing as player of the match after scoring 25, the highest individual score of the tournament so far.

It was an impressive performance and leaves Dulsco well placed for a quarter-final spot in the 27-team event that is divided into three different sections – Gold, Silver and Bronze.

The Gold section has three sides – SFS, the Knight Riders and Oxford Marine – and each will play the others twice with the top two going through to the Grand Final.

There are 12 teams in each of the Silver and Bronze sections, and eight from each will go through to those quarter-finals to be followed by semi-finals and finals.

It is indoor cricket’s equivalent of Twenty20, with the eight-a-side matches involving just eight overs per team. Players bat in pairs for two overs each and five runs are deducted from a team total every time a wicket falls.

Dulsco was impressive against Transmed but the highest score in the latest round of matches belonged to Chalmers, which totaled 91 against the Khaleej Times in the opening match in Pool C of the Bronze section.

Sujith top-scored for Chalmers with 20 but with four players reaching double figures it all added up to a mighty impressive score.

The journalists produced a spirited response with 58 but ended up well beaten as Jassim of Chalmers took player of the match honours with a great double of 11 runs and three wickets for minus seven runs.

Al Futtaim Logistics produced an emphatic display to overwhelm the Pakistan Tigers by 62 runs. Al Futtaim scored 73 and then kept the Tigers to 11 in reply. The Al Futtaim bowlers were rampant with three of them taking three wickets apiece and 15 wickets tumbled in that Tigers effort. Ishaan ended as player of the match with a great all-round display of 16 and three wickets for minus six runs.

The first match in Pool C of the Silver section produced a thriller with Alec edging home by 10 runs against Friends Cricket Club.

The Friends side was always in contention and required 21 from its final two overs, but could only muster 10. That was tough on Majid who ended up on the losing side despite scoring 14 and taking one wicket.

Edgen Murray broke its duck at the third time of asking when, after losing to High Ninjas and Crystal Gallery, it hammered Omnicom Media Group by 50 runs.

Edgen Murray scored an impressive 88 and, in reply, Omnicom never recovered from a disastrous start, being reduced to minus 12 runs by the end of its first two overs of batting. On that basis its players did well to scramble to 38 as Parvez finished as player of the match, the Edgen all-rounder scoring 17 and taking four wickets for minus two runs.
