Interface win ACL opener against Ibsons
Team Interface won the opening match of the Arabian Cricket League against Ibsons at the ICC Academy.
Batting first, Interface made 160 in 19.4 overs, while their opponents could only manage to muster 145 in response.
The ACL is the UAE’s first and only outdoor Twenty20 tournament open to members of the public. The action takes place in the evenings under the expansive floodlights of the outdoor Ovals which in the past has seen several teams practice there, including Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Afghanistan, Ireland and the UAE.
Despite three ducks on their scorecard, Interface’s bulk of the runs came via Rizwan Rauf, who made an excellent 55 with Bilal Irshad and Mohammed Boota contributing with 21 and 22 respectively. Mukhtar Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets with Fayaz Ahmed, Misbah Khan and Habib Ghazi all bagging a brace.
Ibson’s runs came primarily through Shazad Malik, who made a polished 51, with contributions from Rameez Raja (27), Baber Malik (17) and Faizan Asif (15). Ibsons though were able to dismiss six players for scores of five or less, with Nadir Hussain and Anil Advani picking up two wickets each, while Rizwan Rauf took three.
In the end, though, Interface’s score proved to be a bridge too far for Ibsons. For his sterling work with both ball and bat, Rizwan Rauf of winning side Interface was awarded the Man of the Match gong.
